Hillary Clinton and The View Declare Premature Victory, Discuss Bill's White House Role

April 5, 2016

The View and Hillary Clinton declared premature victory in the Democratic primary and general election Tuesday, going so far as to discuss Bill Clinton's role in her administration.

Clinton is reportedly bracing for a loss in the Wisconsin primary against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who has mounted a sturdy challenge to her candidacy despite being a 74-year-old self-declared socialist. She also is viewed unfavorably by a majority of the American people.

Clinton appeared on the left-wing gabfest on Tuesday while campaigning in New York, and the interview and The View audience were unsurprisingly friendly.

"So when you win--when you win," co-host Joy Behar repeated, for emphasis.

"OK," Clinton said, smiling, as the crowd whooped.

"What's Bill going to be called? The first husband? First grandpa? First pop-pop?" Behar asked. "What's he going to be called?"

"Well, we really should run kind of a contest, because some people have said obviously, first gentleman," Clinton said. "That kind of fits. Others have said first mate ... Others have said first dude."

"That's what I would call him," Whoopi Goldberg said.

"Yeah," Clinton said.

"How much influence do you think he'll have in the administration?" Behar asked.

"I hope he'll have a lot of involvement in starting the economy to really take off. I don't think President Obama gets the credit he deserves for rescuing us from a terrible economic crisis," Clinton said, repeating one of her stump speech's standard lines.

"Absolutely," Behar said.

After praising Obama for saving the American people, Clinton then pointed out there weren't enough jobs with rising incomes in the U.S.

"But now we need more jobs with rising incomes," Clinton said. "A lot of the people who are angry ... they're people who feel really disappointed. They are people who feel frustrated and fearful. They are afraid of the fact that they don't have the kind of job that they thought they would have."
