Washington Free Beacon editor Matthew Continetti said Sunday that the direction of the Robert Mueller's investigation toward the question of obstruction of justice places President Donald Trump in a "perilous place."
Continetti wrote last week that Trump's tweet warning fired FBI Director James Comey he should hope there are no "tapes" of their conversations could be the decision that led to potential impeachment down the line.
Comey testified Thursday that the tweet is what spurred him to leak a memo of his conversation with Trump about backing off the investigation into ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, in hopes that it would prompt the appointment of a special counsel.

While Comey did confirm Trump's prior claims that he was not personally under investigation, Continetti said on MSNBC, the question now is whether he may have obstructed justice.
"This is the real danger for Trump and the White House," he said. "The machinery of the investigation directed by Robert Mueller is going to move to the question of obstruction of justice, and that is a perilous place, I think, for the president to be."
Continetti also appeared on Fox News on Sunday to discuss his column. He called Comey's revelation about why he leaked the memo "the biggest reveal" of his testimony.

"I think that's where you see the president really coming into Washington unaware of the norms and expectations that govern this city and kind of running like that bull in a China shop into a harsh reality which is the Mueller investigation, which as we talked about, shows no signs of slowing down, even though the underlying crime, the so-called collision with Russia, hasn't been proved and probably won't be," he said.
