Clinton Arrives Late to Podium When Democratic Debate Restarts

'Sorry'

December 19, 2015

The three Democrats at Saturday night's ABC debate had a five-minute break after about an hour of questions and answers, but when they re-convened after a commercial break, Hillary Clinton was nowhere to be found.

Moderator David Muir noted Clinton's absence as he began his question about the economy, and Twitter lit up with screenshots and jokes about where Clinton could be as the debate was getting back underway.

"We've already had a spirited conversation here at the top of the broadcast about ISIS, about concerns of terror here on the home front, and as we await Hillary Clinton backstage here, we're going to begin on the economy," Muir said. "We want to turn to the American jobs, wages and raises in this country, and we believe Secretary Clinton will be coming around the corner any minute.

"But in the meantime, we want to start with this eye-opening number. Senator Sanders, this question goes to you first, anyway. In 1995, the median American household income was $52,600 in today's money. This year, it's $53,600. That's 20 more years on the job with just a two-percent raise. In a similar timeframe, raises for CEOs up more than 200 percent."

Clinton then walked onto the stage to her center podium, to laughter and applause from the New Hampshire audience.

"Sorry," Clinton said, smiling.
