Two Afghan trainees disappeared from the Moody Air Force Base in Georgia between Friday and Monday, leading U.S Air Force and Georgia police officers on a search for the individuals Tuesday.

NBC News reported that the Air Force students, both male, did not show up for their training on Monday at the base near Valdosta, Georgia, which prompted the search.

The Afghan students have been training there since February and arrived in the United States more than a year ago after being screen and vetted, the Moody Air Force Base said in a statement.

"The students have trained alongside American counterparts for the entirety of 2015 and do not pose any apparent threat. There is a well-coordinated process among federal agencies to locate the individuals as quickly as possible and return them accordingly to the proper authorities to manage their present situation," the base said.

A Department of Defense official also said that the trainees are not believed to pose a threat. He further stated that it is not unusual for trainees to occasionally leave the base without authorization.

The two trainees, who have not been named, were last seen on the base Friday, local Georgia outlet WALB reported.

The Afghan students are assigned to the 81st Fighter Squadron and were receiving maintenance instruction.
