A former United Nations employee was arrested Monday for robbing four New York City banks, all of which were in walking distance of U.N. headquarters in Manhattan.

Abdullahi Shuaibu of Nigeria was arrested by the New York Police Department for the robberies, which all occurred during his lunch break, according to the New York Post.

Shuaibu, 53, was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery following his arrest. All four of the banks Shuaibu is accused of robbing are within walking distance of U.N. headquarters.

The first robbery occurred on Feb. 27, and Shuaibu was arrested following a robbery attempt on Monday.

During Monday's incident, Shuaibu reportedly walked into an HSBC branch and slid a teller a note demanding money while he kept his hand in his pocket to try to trick the teller into believing he had a gun.

The 53-year-old was recognized by a former police officer who works at U.N. headquarters and recognized pictures of Shuaibu from images released by the police.

Shuaibu works for an African news agency as a journalist covering the U.N. He previously worked at the international organization as a communication specialist for two months in 2013, according to News 4 New York.

UPDATE 3:45 P.M.: The original version of this post said Abdullahi Shuaibu is a current United Nations employee. The story has since been updated to note he used to work for the U.N. and currently covers the organization as a journalist.
