Nancy Pelosi Thanks Press for Creating Echo Chamber She Asked for on Gun Control Sit-In

June 23, 2016

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) thanked the assembled press at her briefing Thursday for their breathless coverage of the Democratic sit-in to push gun control legislation.

A day earlier, she expressed her hope on the Capitol steps that Democrats could "create an echo chamber throughout America" as they sat on the House floor to push legislation that already failed to pass the Senate.

"This is an echo," Pelosi said. "We are echoing each other, and what we hope to do is create an echo chamber throughout America of a repeated message of no bill, no break."

Pelosi appeared to get her wish, hyping on Thursday that she was handed six single sheets of paper listing off newspapers that covered the Democrats' stunt on their front pages.

"In any event, thank you all," Pelosi said. "I never saw the gallery so full. We really kept you up late and during the night and all the rest ... But thank you for your interest, and they gave me six pages today. Six small-print, full pages listing of newspapers around the country where the sit-in was on the front page. I thank you for that. Thank you all."

Luke Russert asked as she left the podium whether she attended Game 7 of the NBA Finals between her hometown Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
