Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv blasted Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel on Sunday for "virtue-signaling against the NRA."
Kashuv spoke with Fox News' Leland Vittert about Israel, students returning to school this week, and gun control.
"On the CNN town hall, we had the sheriff who was virtue-signaling against the NRA and against guns when he didn't even act properly," Kashuv said.
Israel has been criticized by many for his role criticizing the National Rifle Association during a CNN town hall last week after revelations emerged that sheriff's deputies did not rush into the high school to confront the shooter. The school resource officer was said to be hiding outside while students and teachers were being killed. Despite condemning the NRA at the town hall, it was later reported Israel had been made aware of the deputies' lack of action at the time of the town hall.
Vittert asked Kashuv about Israel's claims that he's provided "amazing leadership" in the wake of the shooting.
Kashuv disagreed with that assessment, saying the sheriff "failed to act" on many levels.
"I think he absolutely needs to resign after what happened here. He failed to act on so many different levels and him himself, he's responsible for this massive failure," he said. "This could have been easily stopped both by the FBI and the sheriff's department had they acted."
Kashuv also said that despite the differences he and other students have with some classmates regarding guns and gun control, they have nothing personal against each other.
