Harrington: It Was Time for Comey to Go

Washington Free Beacon reporter Elizabeth Harrington on Thursday joined Fox Business host David Asman to discuss President Donald Trump's decision to fire now-former FBI Director James Comey.

Asman referenced Trump's interview with NBC anchor Lester Holt earlier in the day in which the president said, "There is no good time" to fire Comey. Asman said that if Trump had fired Comey after he was sworn in, then the media and Democrats would have been down his neck about it.

"Absolutely," Harrington said. "The media and Democrats, that's why you see them so twisted around this story, because everything that Trump does, he can't win. It's always the worst thing ever, and it's always an impeachable offense."

"What you have here with the Comey story, you can roll the tape of every leading Democrat that has at one point called for James Comey to be fired, to resign," Harrington continued. "As long as it affected Hillary Clinton negatively, and then once Trump does, how could he do it now? They have no idea how to handle Jim Comey."

Asman asked Harrington later in the interview whether the hate between Comey and Trump might be avoided.

"Yes, I think so," Harrington said. "I think honestly that might be a reason why Trump kept him around at least as long as he did, because he maybe saw an opportunity that he could work together with him."

Harrington went on to say that Comey's time had come and that he was never going to last at the FBI because he had been there through several scandals.
