Pelosi: Republicans' Desire to Give a Tax Break to the Rich Worth 'Walking the Plank'

May 4, 2017

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) reacted to the House passing the American Health Care Act on Thursday, claiming Republicans' desire to give a tax break to the rich was worth "walking the plank" to them.

Pelosi gave a press conference alongside other House Democrats after the American Health Care Act, the Republican plan to replace Obamacare, passed in a narrow 217 to 213 vote.

"This was about giving a tax break to the richest people in our country and corporate America," Pelosi said, noting it was very sad and "one of the biggest transfers of wealth in the history of our country."

Pelosi then said she would ensure the public is aware of what the Republicans put their names to with this vote.

The California representative claimed Republicans who voted for the American Health Care Act were "duped into walking the plank for a bill that will not become law."

"But I guess their desire to give a tax break for the rich trumped everything," Pelosi said, apparently gleaming from her play on the word "trumped."
