Morning Joe Presses Pro-Clinton Guest on Foundation: Don’t Treat Us Like We’re Stupid

September 13, 2016

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough told liberal commentator Joe Conason on Tuesday to stop acting like he and co-host Mika Brzezinski "were stupid" regarding the scandals surrounding the Clintons.

Conason, the author of the new book Man of the World: The Further Endeavors of Bill Clinton, had said the Clintons are so sure of their honesty and integrity that they do not understand how other people view their actions negatively.

"Hillary Clinton knows she didn’t take bribes from Goldman Sachs, I think she is sure of that, and she doesn’t understand other people would see the big speech fees from Goldman Sachs as a problem," Conason said.

Brzezinski pushed Conason on allegations from critics that Clinton Foundation donors were given special access to the State Department while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.

Conason said that he did not see any evidence of an inappropriate relationship and asked Brzezinski to name one.

"Connecting the dots is a simple exercise, but you have to show that there’s a motive and you have to show that somebody did something because of something else," Conason said.

Scarborough and Conason then got into a battle of words over the missing copies of Rose Law Firm billing records that appeared in the White House. Hillary Clinton worked at the law firm before her husband entered the White House.

Conason said that Scarborough should read the independent council’s final report.

"This is the sort of B.S. that the Clintons always play and we are trying to have a nice interview here, but please don’t act like we are stupid," Scarborough said. "They take custody of records, be it emails or billing records, and then they decide what the world sees and what the world doesn’t see, and we don’t know if the process is legitimate or not."

Conason said the records were lost and the documents that showed up in the White House were just copies.
