Democrats Demand Trump's Supreme Court Nominee Be Confirmed

January 31, 2017

Prominent Democrats couldn't be more clear: The Senate must do its duty and give a fair and full hearing to President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

Former President Obama, former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y), and other top Democratic lawmakers are calling for him* to be confirmed because the American people deserve "a full and functioning Supreme Court."

Former President Barack Obama

"Give him an up-or-down vote. To deny it would be an abdication of the Senate's constitutional duty."

Hillary Clinton

"Let's have a vote. We're a democracy. Either vote somebody up, or vote somebody down."

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.)

"Every day that goes by without a ninth justice is another day the American people's business is not getting done."

Sen. Brian Schatz (D., Hawaii)

"The president has done his job and sent us a qualified nominee."

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D., Wis.)

"The American people deserve a full and functioning Supreme Court."

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.)

"I think the people of this nation want us to do our job."

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.)

"We have to treat our co-equal branch of government with respect."

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D., N.D.)

"That's our job. That's why the American taxpayers pay us."

Sen. Michael Bennet (D., Colo.)

"We must fulfill our basic constitutional obligation of holding a hearing and a vote."

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.)

"Stand up and do your job."
