President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on May 9, 2017, and CNN marked the one-year anniversary Wednesday with a dramatic montage of its reporters and anchors covering the breaking news.
"One year ago today started like any other crazy day in Washington, and it ended in President Trump's surprise firing of then-FBI Director James Comey, a move that would become the centerpiece of his fury," CNN anchor Brianna Keilar said.
Keilar recounted then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer responding to questions about Trump's confidence in Comey three hours before he fired him, saying he hadn't asked Trump about it.
That's when CNN aired its anchors discussing the breaking event on that memorable Tuesday. Wolf Blitzer called it "major breaking news" and "an enormous moment in American history," Don Lemon said there was confusion "around the country and around the world," and Erin Burnett called it "completely unexpected to anyone."
It was a very exciting montage about a day that changed the world.
Like November 22, 1963, or September 11, 2001, May 9, 2017, will certainly go down as one of the most infamous dates in American history.
CNN followed the montage with a story about the Russia investigation.
