Los Angeles police are stepping up patrols after a man allegedly broke into a Jewish family's home and threatened them this week.

The suspect broke into a family's home on Wednesday and threatened to kill them, police say. He was arrested and filmed yelling "Free Palestine" as police took him into custody.

A nine-months pregnant victim of the home invasion told KTLA that the intruder threatened to kill her and her family because they're Jewish.

"[He said,] 'I’m going to kill you because you are Jewish. … Israel kills people,'" the victim said. She said her husband fought him off and forced him out of the house.

"The vile act of hate that took place this morning has no place in our city," Mayor Karen Bass said. "In the wake of the terror and violence inflicted over the previous weeks, this is one of the worst fears of Jewish families across our country: hatred spilling across the threshold, destroying the sense of safety and sanctuary in a home."

"We were very scared because of the situation in Israel now, and we are Israeli," the husband told KCAL News.

The suspect is Daniel Garcia, whose bail was set at $225,000.
