Washington Free Beacon founding editor Matthew Continetti said President-elect Joe Biden knows it's incorrect to claim the Russians manufactured the scandal ensnaring Hunter Biden.
"We know that the Justice Department is conducting an investigation into Hunter Biden's taxes," Continetti said on Fox News's Special Report Tuesday. "[Joe] Biden even seems to hint that he knows that it's real, that it's not disinformation."
Many Democrats and members of the media have dismissed reports about Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings, saying such stories are part of a Russian disinformation campaign that should not be taken seriously. However, the Justice Department is investigating Hunter Biden's taxes, while the FBI and various news outlets have found no evidence of Russian disinformation.
Biden, however, has continued to criticize anyone who asks about the investigation of his son, as he did when he called Fox's Peter Doocy a "one-horse pony" for raising the topic. Continetti said senators should not be deterred from demanding that Biden's choice for attorney general allows investigations to proceed.
"Whoever Biden nominates to be his attorney general needs to face tough questioning from Senate Republicans about whether [the nominee] will be independent and let these investigations proceed as they normally would," Continetti said.
