The Republican National Committee recently castigated MSNBC's "Morning Joe," calling the weekday show the leader of "Trump Derangement Syndrome."

RNC spokesman Michael Reed, who also serves as the organization's research director, sent an email to supporters accusing "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of bias against President Trump.

"If there is a leader of the pack for the worst case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, look no further than MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,'" Reed's email said. "Once a respected forum for intelligent discourse, the program has turned into 3 hours of far-left hysteria, filled with more faux scandal and innuendo than a bad episode of 'Gossip Girl.'"

The RNC spokesman said the MSNBC morning show could have tackled "substantive" issues such as health care and tax reform but instead dedicated the program to "discussing misspelled tweets, White House staffing plans, uncorroborated Russia stories, and the supposed horror of President Trump giving his cell phone number out," referencing Wednesday's show.

Reed also criticized "Morning Joe" for its interview this week with Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.), who "didn't receive a single question on the biggest issue in front of him today, the fact that he is holding and event with Kathy Griffin in July and refuses to cancel it."

Griffin apologized this week for taking part in a photo shoot in which she posed while holding a beheaded Trump. After the comedian's actions sparked outrage, Franken still said he would attend a scheduled event with her. The Minnesota Democrat changed his mind on Thursday, however, canceling the joint appearance.

Scarborough responded to the RNC email blast on Twitter, calling it "funny stuff."
