WATCH: Biden Backtracks on 'Ironclad' Israel Support

May 9, 2024

President Joe Biden pledged unwavering support for Israel days after Hamas killed 1,200 Israelis in the Oct. 7 attacks, with the president emphasizing his administration's "rock solid" support for the Jewish state. During his speech at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony this week, Biden promised "ironclad" support even through disagreements with Israel.

Two days after that speech, Biden told CNN's Erin Burnett that he would pause a shipment of weapons to Israel to prevent their use in the invasion of the southern Gaza city of Rafah, a Hamas stronghold. Sens. Joni Ernst (R., Iowa) and Ted Budd (R., N.C.) are leading a probe into what types of ammunition are being withheld from Israel and why.
