Democrats are having a full-blown "freakout" over the 2024 presidential election. Party operatives, according to Politico, are increasingly worried that President Joe Biden, 81, will lose to former president Donald Trump in November and bring about America's destruction.
"You don’t want to be that guy who is on the record saying we’re doomed, or the campaign’s bad, or Biden’s making mistakes. Nobody wants to be that guy," said one Democratic operative close to the White House. "This isn't, 'Oh my God, Mitt Romney might become president.' It's 'Oh my God, the democracy might end.'" (Fact check: Many Democrats did argue in 2012 that Mitt Romney would destroy America.)
Biden supporters are particularly concerned that the president is losing support among non-white voters who have historically supported Democrats. Few things make liberals angrier than black or Hispanic voters who "betray their race" by voting Republican. Mark Levine, a Democrat who serves as borough president of Manhattan, is among those sounding the alarm.
"The number of people in New York, including people of color that I come across who are saying positive things about Trump, is alarming," Levine told Politico.
