Morning Joe Panel Dumbfounded By Sanders Fundraising

April 5, 2016

The amount of money that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., V.t.) has been raising compared to rival Hillary Clinton dumbfounded the panel of MSNBC's Morning Joe on Tuesday.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski was confused as to why Hillary Clinton was holding fundraisers in the middle of a very close race in Wisconsin.

"She has fundraisers in the middle of a heated primary?" she asked.

Host Joe Scarborough explained that it was completely necessary for her campaign.

"She can't cough and raise a million dollars like Bernie Sanders," he said. "She actually has to do what ... politicians have done for hundreds of years."

Brzezinski was still confused.

"Who’s giving her all of this money?" she questioned. "Like, on this April 12 thing ... who’s paying for this?"

The panel explained that people with a lot of money are the ones to go ahead and fund this campaign. Then the astonishing financial difference between the two campaigns was discussed.

Sanders reportedly raised around 44 million dollars in March as opposed to Clinton’s 29.5 million dollars.

"Forty-four million dollars, doesn’t hold a single fundraising event," Scarborough said of Sanders. "Hillary Clinton holding fundraiser events across America, 29.5 million dollars. It’s just extraordinary. "

MSNBC analyst Mark Halperin was also astonished at how the Sanders campaign is "defy[ing] political gravity."

He points out that even though Sanders effectively lost the nomination in March, he still somehow badly out-raised her.

"That’s not the way politics works," he said.

Normally, Halperin continues, people give money to a candidate when they are winning and have a better chance of winning the nomination and subsequently, the presidency.
