The FBI missed a Wednesday deadline to provide Congress with an internal document that allegedly details a bribery scheme involving a foreign national and Joe Biden when he served as vice president.
Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, subpoenaed the FBI last week for the document, which he says is an internal FBI report from June 2020 that details a scheme involving Biden and a foreign national. A whistleblower told Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) about the document, which provides "a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed," according to the Republicans.
The whistleblower is the latest to come forward with allegations about Biden and his family. An IRS investigator is seeking whistleblower protections in order to provide Congress with evidence that the Justice Department has pulled punches in its tax investigation of Hunter Biden.
The Republicans said Wednesday that the FBI provided a response to their subpoena, but failed to hand over the document, which is known as a FD-1023. The FBI uses those forms to detail interviews with confidential informants and other sources.
"It’s clear from the FBI’s response that the unclassified record the Oversight Committee subpoenaed exists, but they are refusing to provide it to the Committee," Comer said.
Grassley said that the FBI’s offer of "an accommodation process" related to the document indicates that it is "real."
"So the question remains, what did the FBI do to investigate very serious allegations from an apparent trusted FBI source implicating then-Vice President Biden?" said Grassley.
