A top staffer for Democrats in the Ohio state Senate was forced out of his job Monday after other staffers raised complaints about his behavior.

Michael Premo submitted his resignation as the Ohio Senate Democrats' chief of staff after it was requested by the Senate Democratic leader, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

"Recently, concerns of inappropriate conduct toward staff came to my attention and I found the information to be credible," Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D.) said. "Therefore, at my request, Mike Premo today submitted his resignation."

Senate Democrats would not go into specifics about the complaints levied against Premo.

"Out of respect for those who raised the concerns and wish to maintain their privacy, I am not commenting further," Yuko said.

Senate President Larry Obhof, a Republican, said Yuko informed him of the resignation "due to concerns expressed by subordinate employees about his conduct," adding that no formal complaint has been filed.

"We are working with Senator Yuko and his staff to ensure that all appropriate steps are taken in this matter," Obhof said.

The Dispatch noted that, while the complaints against Premo came from other staffers, the ousted chief of staff was outspoken on Twitter, though there is no indication his departure is related to social media activity.

In one tweet from early October, Premo was critical of how police handle black suspects. The Fraternal Order of Police responded by calling on Ohio Senate Democrats to disavow Premo's post.
