Brawls, in all sports, are interchangeable. Players get swept up in a fit of rage. And sometimes the result is Carlos Quentin going Super Saiyan and laying the hammer on Zack Greinke.
And for all of the outrage that says Quentin should get a bounty on his head or not be allowed to play until Greinke's busted collarbone, brought low by Quentin’s People’s Elbow, is fixed, it’s all rather exasperating. Cue a former University of Miami announcer:
Quentin snapped and Greinke happened to have the misfortune of being on the opposite end of his rampage. It’s sports. People overreact or act irrationally all the time. Am I supposed to feel bad Greinke was a dumbass and lowered his shoulder in the futile attempt to fend off an angry man who outweighs him by 40 pounds?
There has been speculation involving why Greinke intentionally would peg the Pride of the University of San Diego High School. It was a one run game. For him to settle some unspoken vendetta at that moment would just show that the Dodgers don't pay Greinke $25 million-a-year to think.
"I never thought about hitting him on purpose," Greinke said. "He always seems to think that I'm hitting him on purpose. That's not the case."
History is strewn with men wildin’ out on someone for scuffing their Pumas. Quentin got pegged, initiated the confrontation, and Greinke squared up. The rest was physics. Let them serve their suspensions.
Matt Kemp calling Quentin a bitch certainly shows this feud is not going away any time soon. But it's between San Diego and Los Angeles—at least by the looks of the Dodgers' Twitter feed. No other clubs need speak.
Wake me for an actual controversy. Like when they finally get around to paying college football players.
