Chelsea Clinton said Tuesday on NBC's "Today Show" that she does not have any plans to run for public office, dispelling persistent rumors that she may enter politics.
Co-host Savannah Guthrie asked Clinton about her presence on Twitter and noted that she has been "sassier" and "more active" than before the 2016 election.
"I did so many events for my mom and I had the chance to share my thoughts, kind of publicly in those forums," Clinton said. "I did lots of interviews. You know, now I continue to share my views after inauguration."
Guthrie followed up by asking Clinton whether she feels liberated now that her mother, two-time failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, is not running for office.
"I don't think what I say today is really any different than what I would have said had I been asked similar questions or had similar kinds of issues originally kind of on a stage," Clinton said. "But certainly I think we all have responsibility to not stay silent now."
Guthrie asked Clinton whether she would like to run for public office in the future.
"You know, Savannah, I don't have any plans to ... I don't think that being a citizen is just something that happens in an election year. I think that it's something that we have to feel a responsibility to every day and these days more than ever," Clinton responded, appearing to take a jab at President Trump.
The former first daughter then reiterated that she has no plans to run for political office, adding that she intends to continue being an activist who raises her voice online and offline.
"I hear that as a maybe," Guthrie concluded.
