Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) has walked back her comments on an unconfirmed dossier about President Donald Trump she made on Thursday.

Waters told MSNBC host Ali Velshi on Thursday, "We already know that the part about the coverage they have on him with sex actions is supposed to be true. They have said that that's absolutely true. Some other things they kind of allude to."

In a statement tweeted by MSNBC, a Waters' aide clarified the congresswoman's comments.

"According to the Waters aide, the congresswoman was referring to this section of the dossier and saying that she would support an investigation into the redacted source and the information they provided as part of the broader House Intelligence investigation into potential ties between Trump associates and Russian operatives during the 2016 presidential election," the statement reads.

The aide further clarified that Waters had not discussed any classified material, telling MSNBC, "She wasn't talking about anything that's not already in the public domain."

Waters' aide also downplayed the congresswoman's interest in the specific unconfirmed sexual events detailed in the dossier.

"She further added that this section of the dossier is only important to the extent investigators are looking into possible blackmail," the statement says.
