Trump Criticizes Media for Not Covering Pro-Life March

January 26, 2017

President Donald Trump chastised the media for not devoting enough coverage to the annual pro-life march in Washington, D.C. during a Wednesday night interview with ABC's David Muir.

The March for Life is held annually in the nation's capital to protest the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which discovered a right to abortion.

Muir asked Trump as they were walking outside the White House if he could hear the hundreds of thousands of protesters who descended upon Washington last Saturday to participate in the Women's March on Washington.

"I couldn't hear them," Trump replied.

Shifting the conversation, Trump criticized the media for not covering the annual March for Life, which usually draws hundreds of thousands of supporters to the National Mall.

"You will have a large crowd on Friday, too, which is mostly pro-life people," Trump said. "Some people said it will be larger, [the] crowd of pro-life people, and they say the press doesn't cover them."

Analysis by the Media Research Center found that "the three broadcast networks covered the women's march 129 times more than they did the 2016 March for Life last year."

Muir did not respond to Trump's comment, instead saying he did not "want to compare crowd sizes again."

Trump agreed they should not compare crowd sizes, but reiterated his point that the press does not give enough coverage to the hundreds of thousands of pro-life supporters who come to the nation's capital to participate in the March for Life.

Again referencing the Women's March on Washington, Muir asked Trump, "Do you sense the responsibility to reach out and unite them?"

"Absolutely. I have a responsibility to everybody, including people that didn't vote for Donald Trump," the president said.
