Former president Bill Clinton will be in Wyoming campaigning for his wife on Wednesday, and Republican Liz Cheney is asking him to take time to meet with her for a discussion on energy policy.

Cheney called attention in a letter to Hillary Clinton's comment last week that she would "put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business," according to the Casper Star Tribune.

Liz Cheney, a Republican who is running for the U.S. House from Wyoming, on Monday afternoon sent a letter to Bill Clinton, asking him to meet with her to discuss energy strategy. She told him he could pick the time and place Wednesday and press could be invited.

"You may not be aware that Wyoming is our nation’s largest coal producing state," the letter stated. "Thousands of our citizens, families, businesses and communities have already been devastated by President Obama’s War on Fossil Fuels. We won’t stand by and watch Secretary Clinton, or anyone else, continue these policies."

Cheney noted that Hillary Clinton recently said at a town hall meeting in Ohio "… we're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business…"

The Clinton campaign would not say whether or not the meeting with Cheney would take place.

Clinton's comments on coal also drew the ire of the Wyoming Republican Party, which said in a statement that Clinton's policy "is as radical as it gets."

"Running for office by promising you’re going to destroy jobs, create unemployment and put one of the most vital industries in the country out of business is as radical as it gets," said the chairman of the Wyoming GOP. "I urge everyone to support Wyoming families, Wyoming jobs, Wyoming industries and reject the dangerous policies being put forth by Hillary Clinton."
