Al Jazeera's maiden voyage on American cable packages has seen some choppy waters. After debuting to flaccid ratings, AJA followed up by releasing one of its highly touted recruits only after three weeks since launch.
Morgan Fogarty left her high-profile anchor slot in Charlotte, N.C., in July to join AJA's rookie class. That's her on the right.
After having a cup of coffee in AJA’s New York CIty HQ, and rehearsing yet never making it to air, Fogarty reversed course and headed back home to Charlotte for "family reasons."
"The idea of going to New York, the news capital of the world, seemed like the right thing to do, but in the final analysis my husband, Jeremy, and I came to the conclusion quickly that there was a lot to be said for a good life in Charlotte, a great place to raise a family."
Don't be too hard on yourself, Morgan. We all make mistakes.
How can you blame her? Fogarty is a Charlotte institution.
Local news has more personality than a sterile cable network.
Five minutes of AJA and even the most die-head realist news junky will start riding bicycles to bankrupt the network and get it off the air.
Welcome home, Morgan.
And thank you for giving us all a reason to unfollow AJA on Twitter.
