NYT Taps Intercept Alum to Manage Editorial Page

The New York Times has hired Charlotte Greensit of the left-wing Intercept to be its opinion section's managing editor and an associate editorial page editor.

Acting editorial page editor Kathleen Kingsbury announced Greensit will lead the opinion platform's "day-to-day programming strategy."

Greensit joins a section still reeling from outrage sparked by a June 3 op-ed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) that called for federal troops to quell violent riots. Dozens of Times reporters erupted over the publication of Cotton's piece, which led to editorial page editor James Bennet's resignation and apologies from the newspaper's brass.

Greensit appears to espouse a reliably liberal worldview. In 2017, she shared an Intercept article that said Cotton "may be America's most dangerous senator." She has also tweeted articles that referred to President Donald Trump as a "Quack-in-Chief" and Vice President Mike Pence as the "most powerful Christian supremacist in U.S. history." She also promoted articles that argued Gazans were justified in trying to invade Israel and defended Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) against bipartisan criticism of her anti-Semitic comments.

Greensit, a native of England, previously worked as a reporter and editor for Time's London bureau.
