MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle couldn't restrain her jubilation Wednesday over what a reporter described as a new generation of liberal suburban women activists, grinning and saying, "Damn, boys ... you're screwed."
MSNBC's Chris Jansing returned from Georgia after interviewing a quarter of suburban women who she described as "fed up with voter suppression"—even though such charges in Georgia are not borne out by the facts—and one of them described herself as "pissed off."
In the segment, Jansing and Ruhle praised the efforts of the women without mentioning they were clearly supportive of Democratic candidates, and no party or partisan affiliation ever came up. The women being interviewed, called "Super Volunteers," also never mentioned a specific party or candidate, although their activism is currently focused on getting all votes counted in the Georgia gubernatorial race where Stacey Abrams trails Republican Brian Kemp by nearly 60,000 votes.
Activist Cam Ashling said they were used to not having a seat at the table, so "we know how to do this in other parts of our lives" and they were tired of "the sexism and the racism."
"The future is female ... We going to enter a matriarch era," activist Jen Cox said. "Down with the patriarch. Sorry. They're not doing a good job. If they were doing a good job, we probably would all hang out and play with our kids and our pets and do our normal thing. But they are doing a very horrible job at running the government."
More than 100 women will head to the House of Representatives in January, a record number in the chamber. Democrats won the House for the first time since 2010.
Jansing gushed that one of her favorite quotes from the women was that "things change and shift with perseverance."
"Damn, girls. These mama bears are not going to be hibernating this winter," Ruhle said.
Jansing relayed that these activists planned to continue educating their neighbors and recruiting new candidates, and she excitedly said they were clearly getting ready for the next generation.
"Damn, boys," Ruhle said. "Emotional intelligence, perseverance, compassion, smarts. You're screwed."
Ruhle is no stranger to sprinkling her newscasts with editorializing and sardonic asides. She frequently makes critical remarks of Republicans and the Trump administration, has mocked hunters who use silencers, repeatedly scolded Ivanka Trump, and admitted the media was "going after" then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
