Sen. Thom Tillis (R., N.C) collapsed while doing a race in Washington on Wednesday morning and was taken away in an ambulance, Fox News reports.

Tillis posted a video to Twitter telling viewers that he was "fine" and that he did not require CPR at the scene, as was originally reported.

"Hey everybody, I'm fine, just running about two-and-a-half miles in, got overheated," he said. "No CPR, no special measures, just checking me out. See you back on the Hill."

Fox reports:

The 57-year-old was seen on the ground being administered to by bystanders at about the two-mile mark in the three-mile race in Anacostia Park in the southeast part of the city.

Tillis was competing in the ACLI Capital Challenge 3 Mile Team Race. According to the race website, the Capital Challenge "attracts scores of members of Congress, high-ranking political appointees, Generals, Admirals, television correspondents, print and web reporters, Federal Judges and other Washington VIPs."

Tillis posted a photo to his Twitter account just before 8 a.m. showing him smiling and standing with members of his team.

Local reporter Debra Alfarone tweeted a photo of three bystanders who attended to Tillis.

Fox News reporter Bill Hemmer tweeted that Tillis was awake at the hospital, and it appeared that he had collapsed from dehydration.

Tillis was elected to his seat in 2014.

UPDATE: 10:14 A.M.: This article added a tweet from Fox News reporter Bill Hemmer that Tillis is awake at the hospital. It also added Tillis' Twitter video statement that he didn't require CPR, as was originally reported.
