NYT Reporter: WH ‘So Much Cockier’ This Time Around

New York Times reporter Helene Cooper said the White House is "much cockier" and unwilling to negotiate within the party as compared to the debt ceiling negotiations of 2011 in a Sunday "Meet the Press" interview.

"I think when you talk about the feeling at the White House, there's a palpable difference now compared to 2011, the summer of 2011," Cooper said. "They are so much cockier right now at the White House than they were a year and a half ago when they were doing this."

"They really believe they have set out–you come to us, we're not going to negotiate against ourselves. We're not going to like put — keep putting out more proposals," she continued. "I mean, remember the summer of 2011, when President Obama was perceived, and they believed at the White House, that he kept making concession after concession and didn't get anywhere? They are definitely not doing that now."

Speaker of the House John Boehner said in a Friday press conference that negotiations did not improve last week and that "the White House has wasted another week."
