Chelsea Clinton came to the defense of Donald Trump's son, Barron Trump, over the weekend after the 10-year-old was targeted on social media by a Saturday Night Live writer.
Katie Rich, the SNL writer, on Friday night tweeted that the president's youngest son "will be this country's first homeschool shooter."
Critics chastised the writer for attacking the child, which led Rich to eventually take the tweet down and turn her account private. NBC has not commented on the tweet since it received a wave of criticism, according to Fox News.
Clinton posted on her personal Facebook and Twitter pages on Sunday afternoon that children of elected officials should be off limits to journalists and the media. Clinton's post also included a reference to President Trump, urging people to stand up to him if he enacts policies that may hurt kids.
Clinton knows first hand the trials and tribulations that come from growing up in the White House. She was 12 years old when her father, President Bill Clinton, assumed the presidency.
The only child of Bill and Hillary Clinton received mostly positive responses from her followers for standing up for Barron, despite his father defeating her mother in the 2016 presidential election.
"Exactly what a woman who grew up in the White House should say. You are the finest product of an American Presidential legacy," the top comment on her Facebook post read.
