WFB's Adam Kredo Says the Trump Administration's Gloves Are Off With Iran

February 7, 2017

While on One America News Network's Tipping Point with Liz Wheeler, Washington Free Beacon senior writer Adam Kredo said that White House officials are getting fed up with Iran's behavior.

Last Friday, the Treasury Department placed new sanctions on Iran in response to an Iranian ballistic missile test. Iran insisted it was not violating the nuclear agreement because the missiles were for defensive purposes.

"I've spoken to senior officials in the White House and there's no stomach for this anymore quite simply," Kredo said. "They've said to me that repercussions are coming beyond sanctions and the gloves are off."

Kredo added that the State Department under President Barack Obama allowed Iran to get away with more than the Trump administration ever will.

"Iranian officials, military leaders saber rattle quite often, especially in terms of the U.S.," he said. "I think it was much easier to get away with this rhetoric under the Obama administration."

"The State Department under Obama would routinely say, 'look, we don't respond to threats and rhetoric and saber rattling, we look at Iran's actions,'" Kredo continued.

Wheeler noted that Iran's recent actions, funding Houthi rebels who waged an attack on a Saudi vessel, come across as an attempt to instigate conflict with the United States.

Kredo agreed that Iran is certainly trying to "test the waters," and the Trump administration is going to take Iran's threats seriously.
