More than 25 restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area shut down or significantly curtailed their operations Thursday in solidarity with a "Day Without Immigrants" strike.

The "Day Without Immigrants" strike is a response to President Trump's recent crackdown on illegal immigration. Immigrants across the country have planned to stay home from school and work to support the protest.

In the first full week of February, at least 680 undocumented immigrants were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The "Day Without Immigrants" strike is meant to push back against the arrests and prove that the United States would not be able to function without immigrants.

Demonstrators have also planned to march to the White House on Thursday at noon. The march will begin at the Many Languages One Voice office in Mount Pleasant.
