Doug Jones Doesn't Have a Position on Whether GOP Should Delay Tax Vote Until He's Seated

December 14, 2017

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) are demanding Republicans delay their tax reform bill vote until Alabama Senator-elect Doug Jones is seated, but one Democrat doesn't have an opinion on that matter:

Jones himself.

Fresh off his stunning upset win in Alabama's special election Tuesday night, Jones appeared on NBC's "Today" Thursday and was asked by host Savannah Guthrie if she agreed with Schumer's call for a delay so he could have a vote.

"Oh, I'm just going to let that play out," Jones said. "I really don't have a position on that. With the holidays and everything going on, this is a big deal. I want to make sure it's done right, so let's just see how it plays out.

Republican leaders reached a deal Wednesday on a consensus tax bill that they hope to get to President Donald Trump's desk by Christmas, and they have said they don't plan on slowing down.

Republican Roy Moore still has not conceded the Senate race to Jones, but Jones did receive a congratulatory phone call from  Trump.

Jones said he would be willing to work Trump on matters that would benefit Alabama, mentioning the state's strong defense industry that he would like to see get more federal dollars.
