Somebody Finally Strapped a Flamethrower to a Drone

December 9, 2015

Drone technology has reached a brave new frontier: flamethrowing.

Austin Haughwout, a Connecticut teenager, has followed up his innovative drone-with-a-gun-strapped-to-it by creating the world's first drone-with-a-flamethrower-strapped-to-it. The 19-year-old used his creation to roast a holiday turkey, likely proving its usefulness to what might be otherwise skeptical online observers. A four-minute video posted to the teen's YouTube page demonstrates how the drone masterfully roasts the turkey from a number of different camera angles. It's not known whether the turkey was consumed or how it tasted.

Austin's experimental drone was sponsored by a major online hobby shop, HobbyKing, which provided the parts used to build the new drone.

Connecticut Police did not indicate the flamethrowing drone violated any laws.

"Your email to me is the first time that I have heard of this latest development involving the young man you mentioned," Clinton Police Sgt. J. Dunn told WTNH. "I just spoke with my Deputy Chief John Carbone (my immediate supervisor) regarding your request for comment, and after speaking with him it was decided we (Clinton PD) have no comment on this matter, at this time."

President Obama recently commended another teenager for his amateur clockwork and rewarded his creativity with a personal invitation to the White House. There's no word yet on whether the president will extend the same invite to Haughwout for his creativity.
