A network comedy about a lawyer applying "the third time’s the charm" theorem toward marriage shouldn’t be any good. But ABC's Trophy Wife happens to pull it off, relying heavily on the comedic talents of Malin Akerman.
Akerman's Kate frequently hit up karaoke bars before Pete (Bradley Whitford) made her a honest woman.
Like on Trophy Wife, Akerman has quite an active nightlife.
When her husband is unable to make a parent-teacher conference concerning his son, Kate convinces him to allow her to go in his place.
Akerman herself likes to be where the action is at.
Back in the conference, the son has been busted for writing a rather detailed encounter with an older woman.
After the meeting, Kate runs into her stepdaughter who has smuggled vodka in a water bottle, at Kate's off-hand suggestion. While in the presence of Pete's first wife and the mother of the girl, Kate defends her new stepdaughter by biting bullet.
You can picture that ride home.
Akerman's ride to the Emmys was less hectic.
When it was revealed the subject of the dirty story was in fact the older sister's friend, Kate was quite the proud step momma.
I'll give Trophy Wife another go next week.
