Months Later, Vox Still Looking for a 'Race and Identity' Editor

Holding out for Obama?

October 15, 2015

Vox Media is the hottest thing in Internet these days. Back in July, Vox.com, the media conglomerate's open-source blog for rising high school seniors who spend their free periods in the library, announced a series of job openings, including "race and identity editor" and "staff writer, foreign."

More than four months later, the "race and identity editor" position is, regrettably, still open. According to the job description, the ideal candidate should possess "headline-writing magic" and have a minimum of six years experience as a writer and editor. Management experience is a plus, because the candidate will be asked to "conceptualize and implement an editorial strategy for the race and identity team."

Vox.com bills itself as "a user's guide to the news," and aspires to create "the single best resource for news consumers anywhere." Notable posts include "9 reasons Christopher Columbus was a murderer, tyrant, and scoundrel," "Obama had a pretty sick burn mocking Putin's 'leadership,'" and "Butt selfies are now a thing. So is this $80 BelfieStick."

President Obama has subtly hinted that he would be interested in an editorial position at Vox.com after leaving the White House.
