President Donald Trump took credit Thursday for new dialogue between North Korea and South Korea, tweeting that his firm stand on American might was making the talks happen.
The two countries established contact over a hotline that had been unused for nearly two years on Wednesday. The brief phone calls between North and South Korea were viewed as a hopeful sign of future talks that could deescalate the nuclear tensions on the peninsula.
Trump, who raised eyebrows this week with a taunting tweet directed at North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un over the size and efficacy of his nuclear "button," said his commitment to American "might" against North Korea helped spur the dialogue.
"With all of the failed "experts" weighing in, does anybody really believe that talks and dialogue would be going on between North and South Korea right now if I wasn’t firm, strong and willing to commit our total "might" against the North. Fools, but talks are a good thing!" he wrote.

Trump has leveled other tough words at North Korea over the past year, warning the rogue regime of "fire and fury" if it made good on any of its unhinged rhetoric toward the U.S. or its allies.
Trump also addressed the commission he shut down Wednesday that was investigating alleged voter fraud, saying Thursday the system was rigged and endorsing voter identification.
