Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) told MSNBC anchor Hallie Jackson on Friday that she believes FBI Director James Comey is showing he can be "intimidated" by Republicans after he reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server a week ago.
Comey reopened the email probe last Friday after federal officials uncovered emails on seized devices from Clinton confidant Huma Abedin and her estranged husband Anthony Weiner in a separate investigation, the Washington Free Beacon previously reported. Prior to last Friday, the email investigation was closed after Comey exonerated Clinton of any charges, despite calling her handling of classified emails "extremely carless."
Jackson asked Stabenow to comment on a report that there is deep antipathy for Clinton at the FBI and whether agents there are trying to damage Clinton's campaign.
"At this point, who knows?" Stabenow said.
"So the door is open in your mind?" Jackson asked.
"I think the biggest thing is my disappointment with the director. I think he's shown he's very easily intimidated by the Republicans in D.C. who are constant trying to create controversies and so on," Stabenow said.
