Perez Yells During Election Victory Speech: 'The New Democratic Party Is Back!'

November 8, 2017

Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez yelled that "the new Democratic Party is back" during his speech on Tuesday night after Ralph Northam (D.) won the race for governor of Virginia.

Perez gave part of his speech in Spanish, and then continued on in English about how the Democratic Party is organizing and "leading with our values."

Perez yelled out the Democratic stance on specific issues, telling those in attendance that "if you believe" in the expressed stance, then "you should organize with Democrats."

Among the numerous ideas expressed were the beliefs that, "health care is a right for all and not a privilege for a view," "women's reproductive health rights are fundamental rights," and "we should build more schools and not more prisons."

In addition to the election winners in Virginia, Perez spoke about Phil Murphy, a Democrat who won the race for governor of New Jersey on Tuesday, saying he will "have the backs" of New Jersey residents.

Perez then talked about the Democrats who won the Virginia races for attorney general and lieutenant governor, slamming the Republican candidates.

"John Adams was Ken Cuccinelli on steroids! That's why he got sent home!" Perez said, comparing the Virginia Republican candidate for attorney general to the state's 46th attorney general. "And I'll tell ya, Justin Fairfax, with all due respect to his [Republican] opponent, he kind of cleaned her clock in that debate."

Perez also called "dreamers," immigrants illegally brought to the United States as children, American citizens. Much of the debate surrounding "dreamers" and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program centers on the fact that they are not U.S. citizens.

"We're going to fight for the U.S. Senate as well. Dean Heller, look out!" Perez yelled. "Arizona, Tennessee, Alabama, we're comin', we're competing, we're organizing in every single zip code. The new Democratic Party is back, and we're back with a bang!"
