Vice President Joe Biden is taking a second look at a presidential run, which means Hillary Clinton’s frontrunner status in the Democratic primary is not safe, political journalist Erin McPike said Monday on MSNBC's The Rundown.
"I think the reason is that it's clear now that Hillary Clinton is more vulnerable at this stage of the campaign than people thought she would be," McPike told host Jose Diaz-Balart.
Clinton has struggled through a series of scandals involving her email use as secretary of state and foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation, which has sunk her approval rating. A majority of Americans don’t trust Clinton, find her honest or trustworthy, or believe she is interested in their concerns.
An adviser for Beau Biden, the vice president’s late son, is joining Draft Biden super PAC. Also signaling momentum for a potential run, a number of Biden’s advisers have discussed him jumping in with some Democratic donors.
"Now there's a big opening for another Democrat to potentially take her on," McPike said. "Obviously, Bernie Sanders has been doing well, but this is really a realization that someone could effectively take on Hillary Clinton and that could be Joe Biden."
