Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) said Tuesday that she thinks it's "fantastic" newly sworn-in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) is "challenging the status quo."
Harris, speaking with the hosts of "The View," commended democratic socialist Ocasio-Cortez for "introducing bold ideas that should be discussed." The freshman congresswoman's ideas include implementing new carbon emission regulations and a 70-80 percent tax rate on the nation's highest earners.
"I frankly think it's good for the country. Let's look at the bold ideas," she said. "I'm eager that we have those discussions, and when we are able to defend the status quo, then do it. But if there's no merit, let's explore new ideas."
Harris also commented on another freshman congresswoman, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.), who called President Donald Trump a "motherfucker" at rally last Thursday evening.
"She is not the first nor will she be the last elected person to curse in public," Harris said to an applauding crowd.
In the same interview, Harris referenced her potential run for president, stating to interviewers she was announcing "that I'm not ready to make my announcement."
