Washington Free Beacon reporter Elizabeth Harrington appeared on Fox News Saturday to discuss the struggles of Republicans to pass their agenda in Congress, saying the failure to repeal Obamacare laid with Senate Republicans, not President Donald Trump.
"It's pretty obvious to me that the blame when you're talking about health care goes to the Senate Republicans," she said.
Republicans in Congress head into the August recess with no major legislative achievements under their belt, with the aborted bid in the Senate to repeal and replace Obamacare one of the most glaring failures thus far.
Harrington noted that the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed their own Obamacare repeal bill with Trump's assistance in May.
"The House was able to do it with Trump, and I really don't think it has anything to do with being loyal to Trump or not. It's being loyal to the Republican agenda," she said.
She said later there was too much of a focus on Trump in media coverage of the GOP agenda.
"They make everything about the president," she said. "It's this obsession in all the media coverage. But when it comes down to it, if you take Trump out of the equation, what he's standing for is a lot of what the Republicans have been arguing for for years, for decades. Border security, health care, tax reform."
Focusing on Trump, she said, ignored the fact that there is GOP-unified government and a chance for Republicans to keep their promises.
