Washington Free Beacon senior writer Elizabeth Harrington appeared on Fox News' "America's Newsroom" Tuesday where she discussed a proposal gaining steam in California to offer free health care to illegal immigrants.
"With policies like these, it's no wonder California has one of the highest poverty rates in the country," Harrington said.
"Think about it," she continued. "Since 1992, the state has spent $950 billion fighting poverty. And what do they have to show for it? They now account for a third of the entire country's welfare recipients."
Harrington said that with policies like the one proposed, even more illegal immigrants will flock to California.
"If you give something away for nothing, you're going to attract more undocumented aliens to the state," she said.
She suggested that far-left policies of the sort will, at the same time, motivate law-abiding citizens to flee the state and the Democratic party.
"If the Democratic Party keeps going the way of California with these far-left policies, they're going to not only–how we see happening– flee the state, they're going to flee the party," she said.
Later in the segment, Harrington mentioned that some parts of California are fighting back, with five of its cities joining the Trump administration in suing the state government for its sanctuary city policies.
