Continetti: We're Moving From a Reality TV Presidency to a Court TV Presidency

Washington Free Beacon editor Matthew Continetti said Thursday that the country is moving from a "reality TV presidency to a Court TV presidency" in response to President Donald Trump's public pronouncements on the widening Russia investigation.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller has expanded into whether Trump possibly committed obstruction of justice.

Trump tweeted Thursday morning that the investigation into obstruction was based on a "phony story" and called it a "witch hunt."

Trump then tweeted attacks against 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton on Thursday afternoon, including references to her private email scandal and last year's tarmac meeting between her husband Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, saying "& they talk about obstruction?"

"Meet the Press Daily" host Chuck Todd read out the tweets on MSNBC and noted Trump placed the focus back on the Russia investigation with them.

"President Trump playing to form," Continetti said, referring to Trump's book The Art of the Deal. "You never let the critics get a shot without firing back, and so he's firing back. We're moving from a reality TV presidency into a 'Court TV' presidency ... What's unusual is the subject of the investigation inserting himself, but I think it's a picture of our future."
