During inaugural media coverage on Friday, MSNBC cameras caught President Barack Obama leaving a letter for incoming President Donald Trump in the top drawer of the desk that sits in the Oval Office.

Leaving a private letter to the incoming president has been a time-honored tradition that Obama has continued. The letter is normally left in the top drawer of the presidential desk in the Oval Office of the White House.

Former President George W. Bush's letter to Obama recently became public and was filled with congratulations and well wishes for the president.
