BEASTMODE: Mary Katharine Ham Fact Checks Angela Rye on Clinton Recordings

May 10, 2016

CNN contributor Mary Katharine Ham corrected Democratic strategist Angela Rye Monday night when she doubted there are recordings of Hillary Clinton's critical comments of a successful defense of an accused child rapist.

After a fellow panelist brought up the story reported by the Free Beacon that involved Clinton chuckling about details of the case she defended in the 1970s, Rye seemed angry.

"As an attorney, I am really just flabbergasted by some of the allegations that we are just tossing out here that are not ... we have to be accountable for our words," Rye said.

"Hold on, Kayleigh is right about the audio," Ham said. "The audio was broken by the Free Beacon more than a year ago. It was from the Clinton Library, it was dug up by a reporter there. So there is actual evidence here of her speaking about this."

Donald Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany brought up the story that was broken in 2014 by Free Beacon reporter Alana Goodman. The tapes are readily available online where Clinton discussed her court-appointed defense of an accused child rapist in the 1970s.

Clinton discussed how she used a legal technicality to plead the accused man down and that her client passed a polygraph that "forever destroyed" her faith in the test. Her defense involved arguing that the victim had fantasized about being with older men.

Goodman also broke the story where Clinton, while First Lady, referred to Monica Lewinsky as a "narcissistic loony toon." Goodman's piece also made national headlines.
