The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) celebrated Hezbollah’s deadly surprise attack on Israel Wednesday and vowed to stand with the terror group "against the Zionists," according to regional media reports.

Hezbollah militants killed two Israeli soldiers and seriously wounded seven more early Wednesday in a surprise attack on Israel’s northern border.

The terror operation comes in response to an Israeli airstrike last week that killed several senior Hezbollah leaders and an Iranian commander. It is believed that Hezbollah and Iran were planning a joint incursion into Israel.

Hezbollah fighters fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli jeep, as well as mortars and crude explosive devices, according to the Israel Project (TIP). Following the attack, Hezbollah media outlets broadcast footage of the terror raid.

The IRGC, which has promised a fierce retaliation against Israel, celebrated the terror operation.

"We will stand by the resistance against the Zionists," the IRGC was quoted as saying in a tweet by the Lebanese news outlet Naharnet.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held security meetings with his top military advisers soon after the attack, though no defensive Israeli military action has been announced.
