What happened: Some journalists were photographed attempting to run outside the Miami courtroom where former president Donald Trump was arraigned this week on charges of mishandling classified documents.
Why it matters: Trump's indictment was the best thing to happen to the media since Joe Biden was sworn in as president. American journalists struggle to find meaning in their work when a Democrat is in the White House. They know they should be speaking truth to power and holding our leaders accountable, but that is easier said than done when you and everyone you know voted for the guy in charge.
Journalists need Trump the way Hunter Biden needs crack and hookers. Trump content gets the best ratings, the most clicks. That's enough to give journalists a little buzz, but it's nothing compared with the high they get from imagining themselves as firefighters running into a burning building to save American democracy from white supremacy and fascism.
