President-elect Joe Biden managed to win praise from CNN anchor Chris Cuomo for breaking his foot.
"When Biden hurt his foot, I appreciated it," Cuomo said Monday before celebrating how forthcoming Biden's aides were about what they say was a fall that occurred as the septuagenarian played with his dog. Cuomo argued Biden's forthrightness with the media was the opposite of President Donald Trump's "BS" about his health.
The praise from Cuomo echoed a piece written on CNN's website by editor-at-large Chris Cillizza, who commended the amount of information relayed to the press on Sunday about Biden's fall and subsequent trip to the hospital.
Cillizza's piece, however, incorrectly states that Biden's fall happened on Sunday when the press was notified—as MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell rightly pointed out Monday morning, the incident occurred Saturday and the press was left in the dark until the next day when it was decided that Biden needed medical attention.
"They weren’t as forthcoming as you would hope they would be with the press pool that’s supposed to cover him," Mitchell said.
Cuomo contrasted Biden's disclosure of the injury with Trump's November 2019 trip to Walter Reed Medical Center, which the White House said was for a physical but was followed by weeks of speculation from reporters that it was for something more serious. Reports that Trump was rushed to the hospital due to a severe condition were never substantiated, but commentators such as Cuomo have continued to believe Trump was lying.
Biden will be inaugurated next January as the oldest president in American history.
